VAQG Frances MacPherson Memorial Challenge

Inaugural Year

In honor of Frances the theme will be ‘Oriental Dreams’ as she loved purple and oriental material.  Barbara Plough chair, and Judy Warasila and Pinky Stewart  assistant chairs. 

To participate you  will register and be given a focus fabric to use in making a block that can be squared to 12 ½ inches.  The block will not be finished off as the blocks will be combined into a complete quilt.  The completed quilt will be raffled off within the guild in order to replenish the  challenge fund. 

 You must use enough of the focus fabric to be recognizable. Squares may be turned in as soon as completed with the final deadline being the November 2010 guild meeting. Safety pin a paper with your name on it to the back of the block for identification in judging and for the label which will be included on the back of the quilt. The quilt will be shown in January with raffle tickets available then and in February when the quilt will be raffled off. 

The challenge categories are;  Best depiction of theme, Most creative use of focus fabric, Best use of color, Best use of embellishments (that are washable), Best hand work, Best use of sewing machine work, Best machine embroidery, and Judges choice. Material for the challenge will be available in April at the Guild meeting, or upon registration thereafter.

The material for the challenge will be available at the informals and at the guild meetings beginning in April. If you are unable to get it then you can get material to participate in the challenge by mail, Just contact Pinky Stewart or Judy Warasila and we will mail the fabric to you.   You may get fabric to participate at any time right up until the entry deadline.  You may turn in your completed 12 ½ inch square at any time until the November membership meeting.
