Thursday October 27
Noon - 6 p.m.
Indi-Go-Modern

For Indi-Go-Modern you will learn about 2 color (blue and white) modern
quilt design. Each participant will develop a simple geometric block
design based on unfolded origami shapes, set a theme and create
variations, and combine them into the beginning of a fresh and modern
mini quilt top. Start out by stitching practice blocks from blue and
white paper and explore composition using minimal, modern shapes
inspired by origami. A PDF will be supplied with blue and white images
of fabric, which you can print at home or at a local copy center. Then
translate your ideas to fabric and learn simple pattern making using
cereal box cardboard. You will choose between three possible modern
designs for your blue + white quilt top.
Your fabric does not have to be Japanese, but he asks that it be blue
and white. Be sure to include a range of blue solids and white.

Inspired By Architecture
Using
photos of architectural elements, David will guide you through the steps
to design a mini
fabric quilt. Learn to simplify geometric shapes from architecture, and
use sewing lines as a key
design element for a spare, minimal, modern quilt. Students will use the
quilt-as-you-go method,
sewing the top pieces, batting and backing simultaneously. David will
demonstrate facing your quilt, to give a more modern finish than
traditional binding. Your mini quilt can be the final
product (frame it, hang it, or make a pillow cover later), or it can be
a test for a larger quilt.
